The Department of Public Works is seeking an Engineering Technician (Facilities & Bridges). Help Green Bay maintain and improve our bridges and public buildings! From drafting contracts to overseeing construction, your work will shape the City.

We invite candidates of all backgrounds and experiences to apply, knowing that unique perspectives enhance our service to the community.- Prepares and reviews routine engineering and architectural studies and reports, contract specifications, quantity and cost estimates, and contract payment documentation.
- Assists with biannual inspections of miscellaneous structures and bridges and develops maintenance tasks list based on findings.
- Under the supervision of a consultant, examine bridges to identify and document signs of wear or potential issues such as corrosion, cracks or other vulnerabilities. Assit with implementation of maintenance to extend the service life of existing bridges.
- Coordinates monitoring, lubrication, parts inventory, and maintenance activities of City owned lift bridge.
- Develops and reviews construction documents for bridge and/or facility maintenance and improvement projects.
- Inspects Bridge and/or Facility construction projects ranging from basic to advanced projects for compliance with the plans and specifications, and other applicable codes. Projects inspected may include bridge repairs (concrete, steel, wood) and culverts, underground utilities, pavement, painting, mechanical systems, HVAC, lighting, plumbing, architectural repairs, etc.
- Performs manual and ACAD drafting assignments. Design projects may include bridge rehabilitation, bridge deck repairs and sealing, commercial roof (EPDM, metal, asphalt shingles), storage building construction, masonry repairs, door and window replacement, flooring, façade repairs, ceiling repairs, painting and coatings projects, cabinetry, etc.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Architectural Technology, or equivalent.
- Five years related experience.
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
A combination of equivalent experience and/or education may be considered.
- Knowledge of the principles, practices and materials of public works and building construction. Knowledge of architectural and engineering principles and practices related to construction projects.
- Good computer skills including experience with ACAD, word processing and spreadsheet software. Good record keeping and problem-solving skills. Good oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications. Ability to utilize a computer and the required software. Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and members of the public and private sector. Ability to work the required hours of the position.
