Scope of the position:
The Benefits & Disability Specialist plays a pivotal role in shaping a supportive and employee-centered experience across the organization. As a trusted advisor, this position ensures our teams feel informed, cared for, and empowered when navigating their benefits and disability needs. The Specialist oversees the full lifecycle of employee benefits - from administration (including health, dental and life) to complex disability case management - while partnering closely with employees, leaders, and third-party providers. The ideal candidate will ensure compliance with relevant legislation and deliver compassionate, efficient support to employees navigating benefit and disability processes.
Responsibilities:
• Champion the administration of group benefits programs (health, dental, life, and disability insurance) to deliver seamless employee experience.
• Lead the coordination of short-term and long-term disability claims, liaising with third-party providers and healthcare professionals to support timely and fair outcomes.
• Act as a trusted subject-matter expert, educating employees and leaders on benefits, disability processes, and entitlements.
• Maintain accurate records of claims, absences, and communications using HRIS and third-party systems.
• Ensure compliance with applicable legislation (e.g., ESA, WSIB, PIPEDA, Human Rights Code).
• Identify opportunities to modernize and simplify benefits processes, contributing to long-term program enhancements.
• Collaborate with payroll and finance to ensure accurate benefit deductions and disability payments.
• Prepare reports and analytics to inform decision-making related to benefits utilization and disability trends.
• Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
• Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years in benefits administration and disability management.
• Strong knowledge of Canadian employment legislation and disability case management practices; especially with CNESST (Quebec).
• Experience with Medavie Blue Cross considered an asset.
• Experience in a multi‑site or multi‑province organization is an asset, as this role interacts with diverse teams and varying legislative frameworks.
• Proficiency in HRIS platforms and benefits management systems.
• Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and empathy.
• Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to collaborate with personnel at all levels of seniority from other functional areas across the Company and external organizations.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (English and French).
• Self motivated and able to prioritize amongst multiple projects at once.
• A high degree of critical thinking and analytical skills.
• Able to travel (infrequent).
