Sr. Staff Engineer, Electrical

This

As
a Sr. Staff Engineer – Facilities this is your chance to have a tangible impact at
the Kohler Co. Members of the Corporate Headquarters-based Electrical
Engineering team support the company’s transformation and growth by providing design,
design guidance, project management, coordination and installation of power
distribution, lighting, fire alarm, emergency power systems, and building
management systems (BMS) for new facilities, renovations, or expansion of
existing facilities. These functions are on a global scale and international
travel to remote locations in developing countries could be required (domestic
and international travel could be up to 15%). On-site presence is strongly
preferred; however, a hybrid remote/on-site work model will be considered for
the ideal candidate. On-site presence is expected per project and other
administrative requirements.
Specific Responsibilities
- Identify, develop, and lead process improvement
and risk mitigation projects, programs, and initiatives, communicating progress
and outcomes effectively to senior executives. This role requires the ability
to simplify complex information into clear, executive-friendly communications.
- Assemble project packages and manage projects
of varying complexity, including defining scope, securing stakeholder buy-in
through strategic communication, providing value engineering opportunities,
managing bidding, budget tracking, and construction management. Succinct
communication with senior leadership on project status and challenges is
essential.
- Mentor junior team members, emphasizing the
importance of effective communication skills alongside technical expertise.
- Conduct feasibility assessments and
calculations for electrical system installations or modifications, supporting a
broad spectrum of projects.
- Develop conceptual plans, design packages,
value-engineering assessments, detailed specifications, engineering drawings,
and/or basis of design standards/owner project requirements, ensuring clear and
effective communication with internal and external project stakeholders.
- Coordinate electrical system design with other
engineering disciplines, estimating project costs including engineering hours,
materials, and installation. This includes the ability to articulate complex
interdisciplinary considerations in concise, strategic communications.
- Coordinate the efforts of external consultants
and contractors (both foreign and domestic) engaged in support of projects,
ensuring clear, strategic, and effective communication of project goals and
expectations.
- Commission new electrical systems and
troubleshoot existing systems, analyzing infrastructure for potential failure
modes, and recommend remediation actions. Effectively communicate technical
assessments and remediation strategies to inform decision-making.
Skills/Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree
in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with a focus on
Electrical Systems from an ABET accredited institution, and 6 or more years of
relevant work experience. Degree and experience requirements may be altered for
the right candidate at the sole discretion of the hiring manager.
- Strong,
demonstrated experience with building electrical system design, specifically low
and medium voltage systems.
- Proficiency
with fire alarm systems and emergency standby generator systems. Experience
with BMS/HVAC controls a plus.
- Strong
working knowledge of the IBC, ADA, NFPA 70, 70E, 72, 101, and other relevant
codes and industry standards, including CSI Masterformat and Uniformat
standards.
- Well-developed
computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Outlook, PowerPoint, Word,
Excel, Project) and functional knowledge of power study software (e.g.,
EasyPower, SKM, ETAP).
- Excellent
communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability
to climb ladders and occasionally work at heights. Occasional light lifting and
hand tool use.
Preferred qualifications:
- Professional
Engineer license, PMP certification.

The salary range for this position is $115,800 - $179,200. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, their education, and the work location. In addition, this position is eligible for a performance bonus/variable incentive compensation.
