The Role
Title: Network Engineer
Reports To: Network Engineering Manager
Position type: Remote
The Network Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting complex network infrastructures across diverse client environments. In this role, you’ll work directly with enterprise class technologies, spanning routing, switching, wireless, firewalls, VPNs, and cloud networking (AWS/Azure).
This position is hands on and client facing, requiring someone who can take ownership of projects, serve as an escalation point for advanced issues, and deliver secure, reliable solutions in fast moving environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect, design, and implement network solutions for client environments (on premises and cloud based).
- Act as an escalation point for advanced networking incidents and outages.
- Lead client facing projects from scoping through deployment and handoff.
- Configure and support firewalls, VPNs, switches, wireless, and routing protocols.
- Troubleshoot complex issues across multi vendor networks with minimal client impact.
- Document configurations, changes, and best practices for knowledge sharing.
- Collaborate with internal teams, clients, and vendors to ensure successful project delivery.
- Stay current on industry developments and apply them to client solutions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
- Deep knowledge of TCP/IP, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, VRRP, HSRP), and switching (STP variants, 802.1x, 802.1ad).
- Hands on experience with enterprise firewalls, VPNs, and tunneling (IPSEC, SSL/TLS, GRE, routing/policy based VPNs).
- Familiarity with DHCP, DNS, and Radius/NPS services.
- Proven ability to design and deliver infrastructure projects from start to finish.
- Strong vendor CLI proficiency (Cisco, Palo Alto, Fortinet, SonicWall, etc.).
- Experience with Meraki, Aruba, Ruckus, and other cloud managed platforms (preferred).
- AWS/Azure networking (VPCs, VNets, VPNs, Transit Gateway, ExpressRoute) experience (preferred).
- Clear communication and documentation skills, comfortable in client facing roles.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in an MSP environment.
Minimum Experience and Education
- 5+ years of advanced networking experience in an enterprise or MSP environment (required).
- Cisco CCNA (or equivalent certification, training, or proven experience) required.
- CCNP is desirable but not required.
- AWS Solutions Architect Associate or Azure Networking Engineer certifications (preferred but not required).
- Multi vendor experience with Cisco, Palo Alto, Fortinet, SonicWall, Meraki, Ruckus, Aruba, etc.
- No formal degree required proven skills and experience valued most.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Primarily remote position: client site work as required.
- Occasional travel to client locations.
- May involve moving/lifting equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Physical requirements may include kneeling, crawling, reaching, and lifting during equipment installs.
- Daily use of computer systems and collaboration tools.
